Re: All you Moyes haters, move on, nothing to see here.
Tactically John Lyall outfoxed Arsenal by playing Stuart Pearson behind David Cross in a deep midfield role instead of the usual 442 that we and most other teams played back then.

I rewatched the whole of that game a few months ago. It wasn’t a great game with very few chances either end but we defended really well and we could have finished it earlier but for the professional foul on Paul Allen.

I think it was a very hot day as well which obviously didn’t help with energy levels.

I dunno, I thought we had the upper hand throughout the game, Lyall outfoxed Terry Neil to the point that their players kept looking over to him as if to say what are we doing?

I share many of the frustrations that a lot of us have with Moyes, but it’s hard to imagine how the world will feel if we wake up on June 8 and we’ve won a trophy and guaranteed European football next year. Winners often tend to be remembered for winning more than how they played. I was there in 1980 and I won’t pretend we were brilliant against Arsenal but that was irrelevant. We won. I do think the antipathy that many have for Moyes and his tactics may well evaporate if he’s the manager when we finally win something again.

Yes I agree that we need a manager that sets us up to win games rather than keeping 9 - 10 players behind the ball when we lose possession.

If Moyes could make that switch he would be accepted by most fans. I think though that at 60 years and having survived on the only tactics that have kept him employed for so many years he can’t change which is a shame really.

It stopped him being a success at Man Utd where his Everton philosophy got him the sack and the nickname Dithering Dave. Unfortunately this all points to us needing a change of manager…

Anyone who doubts how much of a difference a change of manager can make just needs to look at Villa since Emery took over. They were below us from memory and now they have a chance of coming 6th and qualifying for the Conference league. Huge turnaround in style of play, performances and results. Howe hasn’t really spent a huge amount since he took over at Newcastle (less than us I think in the same period) and it looks like they will be playing CL football next season and they have done it to a large extent with the squad he took on. Arteta is another one who has totally transformed Arsenal in not a big space of time and without spending ridiculous money.

Moyes is replaceable that’s for sure. Personally I would like a manager who sets up to try and win a game of football rather than one that sets up to try not to lose a game of football. Is that too much to wish for?

I find it a bit strange that someone who got such a hard on over the way Allardyce got us playing, can turn a blind eye to the way Moyes has got us playing.

Miike... the season we beat Arsenal I think we came 8th... I went to a shit load of games that season ... our league stuff was tepid at best .... remember a few games before the final getting tonked at home v Shrewsbury IIRC ... but we was a different team in the Cup... I imagine if the internet would have been around then there would have been quite a few Lyall Out threads...

So if selling your soul is wanting to win a trophy and just shrugging your shoulders as no matter amount of MOANING on a forum is gonna make no fucking difference as to whether he stays or goes.... then so be it... call me a Glory Hunter

Re: All you Moyes haters, move on, nothing to see here.
I think we all see the limitations of Moyes tactics and have had to endure them for ages in the never ending battle to survive in the PL. We also understand that to spend £200m or so on 7 or 8 new players and only have 2 of them as regular starters says a lot about Moyes inability to adopt anything new.

Those are particularly horrific management failures from Moyes. It also says something about Sullivan in that he continues to manage the club badly by appointing DOF and managers that fail after big expenditures. Things that Kretinsky will have noted.

On the other hand Moyes came to WHU as a struggling club and can point to 2 top 7 finishes and a semi-final and final in European cups in spite of his obvious failure to grow his own abilities with the club much like Sullivan has.

Where will it take us I wonder. Ideally a new dedicated owner with deep pockets and more importantly, someone like a new DOF that will take the blame for future failures of the board and manager...

With a regular 62,000 attendance figure, WHU should be up there with the top clubs.

That same old question always get wheeled out doesn't it, but there are a lot of good coaches out there. I think the two obvious candidates would be Potter and Rodgers, I like the Celtic bloke too, maybe even Fonseca, but I believe he is staying put for another season in Portugal. Being in the EL next season will also help attract a good coach.

That said, Moyes could well be staying on of course.

Soldo there have been banners & chants but at away games not home.

The BOARD also gave him £180m which he has largely wasted. I don’t see them trusted him with another £100m this summer, and I don’t see him standing for that.

no idea about the mid 70s, but we played some great stuff in the early 80s so I reject the average label. that same team even outplayed the greatest club side I've ever seen in 81

Miike... behave... we was pretty average in the league in 75, 76 and 80... did people `sell their soul` those seasons for a trophy???

That's the thing, isn't it? The whole for and against thing loses any sense of perspective when you allow strong feelings either way to get in the way of balance.

I'd love to see Moyes succeed, to win this cup and, if he stays, to go on to great heights in the league. Can't see it though. As Vexed said, the route to this final has been a scrape against several sides you'd honestly expect to beat, so from that point of view it's hardly a massive achievement. We also scraped to the play-off final in BFS's first year and then scraped into the Premier League, when we should have won the Championship.

Like everyone else on here, I'd like to see West Ham play quality, attacking football. Can we do that under Moyes. I don't know. I hope so, but doubt it.

Do we want a new manager? Yes, if he can deliver quality football that's successful. Where is this man?

Northern Sold 1:13 Sat May 20
Re: All you Moyes haters, move on, nothing to see here.
Think it's pretty simple Goose... the BOARD will keep him... we have stayed up and we have reached a European final... so.. the BOARD will therefore keep him... I mean especially as there is no "Moyes out"... shouts, songs, campaigns at the mo... so ALL the keyboard moans and groans on here are not going to make any difference whatsoever... I'm No Moyes fan... never wanted him first time.. deffo never wanted him 2nd time around... but there is only so much banging your head you can do ... so it's easier just to accept he's here and enjoy the stuff that is enjoyable...

Soldo, and if we don’t win the final??

If we don't win the final we don't win it... that's football... I went to every game home and away on that FA cup run in 2006, it was one of my fav times following us and had some brilliant days out... and we lost the final. I imagine the guy and girls that been having a blast abroad will probably look back fondly this season no matter what happens in June.

Cough - That's right, it's only Moyes' fault when we lose.
